Since it's opening in 2004, Moss Point Oaks has operated in an ecologically responsible, environmentally healthy manner. Or efforts have recently been rewarded by Sustainable Travel International's 2-star Eco-Certification

In an effort to be an example to other B&B's, hotels/motels,restaurants and other businesses on the Gulf Coast, and with an eye toward continued improvement, we have joined with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, the Pascagoula River Basin Alliance, Moss Point Business Association, the Moss Point Garden Club, the Moss Point Women's Club, the Moss Point Ecotourism Advisory Council, Moss Point Active Citizens (MPAC), who all share the goals of preserving and protecting the environment and our natural resources
while promoting and improving our economy.

Moss Point Oaks has also partnered with The Land Trust for Coastal Mississippi, The Nature Conservancy, the Mississippi Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club and the Pascagoula River Basin Alliance to expand our knowledge and practice of preserving and protecting our environment and natural resources. Moss Point Oaks is certified with the National Wildlife Federation as a backyard habitat.

Found at the confluence of the Escatawpa and Pascagoula rivers, Moss Point has a wealth of beauty, natural wonders and resources. The Pascagoula river is the last remaining undamned, free flowing major river in the lower 48 states. This river is also a major migratory path for some 329 species of birds, and the bayous of both rivers are home to a multitude of wildlife and flora.

Moss Point Oaks is dedicated to living in harmony with, and to help protect the environs of these rivers as we host lovers, watchers and students of these wonders of nature and natural resources of this area, and pledges to continually educate ourselves, our employees, guests, and vendors as we update and improve our policies and actions to achieve this harmony. To this end, Moss Point Oaks has implemented policies and procedures that address waste reduction, re-use of goods, recycling, environmentally preferable purchasing, environmentally safe pest management, water quality protection, energy & water conservation and other affects to the Bed & Breakfast, the community, and the planet.

Recognizing our obligation to our guests, employees, community, and future generations, Moss Point Oaks established a recycle program and continually works with civic organizations, the community and local businesses to encourage participation and to develop a recycle center in the community. We currently recycle plastic bags, aluminum cans, tin cans, newspapers, magazines, and ink cartridges.

We also participate in the FreeCycle web program to encourage the re-use of pre-owned belongings in an effort to keep what we can out of the landfills. We encourage and participate in hazardous waste disposal drives, litter pick up drives both on land and in the rivers, County wide dump pick up campaigns, bird house work shops, and tree planting and propagation workshops in order to improve and beautify our community and support our environment. We maintain a compost bin on the property for leaves, yard waste, vegetable and fruit cuttings, coffee & tea grounds and eggshells; further reducing the amount of solid waste being accumulated in the landfills. We adhere to the motto "Reduce, Re-use & Recycle" for a healthier tomorrow.

In 2003 we began converting all light bulbs with more energy efficient models. We also began using Perfect Scents' soaps, lotions and personal care items made from all natural, biodegradable ingredients. These products are made and distributed by a local company. In 2004 we began using Melaleuka laundry detergents and cleaning products which are non-toxic, non-phosphate, biodegradable, concentrates. These products are also packaged in biodegradable containers. We have installed low flow shower heads , and verified all toilets meet low flush standards. All faucets are scheduled to be replaced with low flow models within the next 6 months.
